Hinekoia (Ngāti Hine, Whakatōhea, and Ngāti Makerewai) is a vocal coach and performer with over 20 years of experience. Her passion for singing and voice has led her to create Waiata Mai Vocal Coaching, where she combines her love for vocal coaching with te ao Māori.

At Waiata Mai, Hinekoia creates an āhuru mōwai—a safe, supportive space where people can develop their vocal skills and confidence while connecting with te reo Māori through waiata. She works with a diverse range of clients including corporates, libraries, schools and kura throughout the Auckland region, and has coached kapa haka groups competing at Te Matatini.

As one of only four Estill Master Trainers in Aotearoa, Hinekoia brings a science-based approach to vocal coaching that works across all singing styles—from kapa haka to folk, pop, and beyond—and even enhances public speaking.

A self-confessed voice nerd, when she's not coaching, Hinekoia can be found watching kapa haka, learning te reo Māori, or having jam sessions with her whānau.
