Beverley & Al Young

The Auckland Folk Festival is proud and pleased to recognise at this year’s gathering the contributions of Beverley and Al Young. The Youngs became part of the New Zealand folk scene in 1967, when they joined the Devonport Folk Music Club in Auckland.

Today, they are known and respected throughout New Zealand and overseas as top artists in their musical fields – British and Irish traditional for Beverley, blues for Al. They are also founding members of the folk festival, having been involved with it since the first festival in 1973. Both have won NZ Folk Album of the Year awards, and have performed at festivals and venues throughout New Zealand and in Australia, the UK and the United States. They will be doing a joint concert and individual workshops at the festival.
