Yurt Party (NZ)

Virtuosic groove-based Street Party Music! Imagine, Balkan and Latin beats fused with soaring melodies steeped in reggae with a touch of electronica. Based in Ōtautahi (Christchurch), they write original music, seamlessly blending these influences into irresistible dance floor bangers.

With an unconventional lineup of violin, saxophone, guitar, keyboard, bass, and drums, the band is known for tight musicianship and explosive live energy. They've built a loyal following across Aotearoa (NZ) through nationwide tours and feature spots at festivals, including Woodford Folk (Aus), Electric Avenue, Twisted Frequency, and CubaDupa.

Yurt Party originated as a trio playing lively traditional music from Eastern Europe, Latin, and Folk. Gradually they added members until they became the 6+ piece festival groove powerhouse they are today. With this lineup of talent, they moved away from trad covers and into writing originals, carving out their unique blend of sounds. One of their formative spots was a pedestrian street with a European feel, where brightly lit buildings set a vibrant backdrop at night. Here, they honed their sound, performing amongst the crowd and transforming the space into epic street parties. This is when they began describing their style as ‘street party music’.
