Just Janie (NZ)

Just Janie is a folk musician born and raised in the heart of Central Otago, currently residing in Ōtautahi. Blending retro pop and folk-rock, with introspective lyrics and crisp melodies, Just Janie transports audiences to the golden warmth of the sixties and seventies. Her debut album Mythology of the Girls, released May 2026, ‘'tears into the fantasy of the 60s', Empty Spaces, NZ.

Mythology of the Girls marks a new era. An ode to nostalgia, and inspired by the folk scene in Laurel Canyon’s hey-day, Janie began questioning the rose tinted perspective or an era that shaped the music she loved and silenced women’s voices. ‘That is the album’s most compelling tension. 13th Floor wrote: ‘Mythology of the Girls is in love with the sound of the past, while remaining deeply wary of the stories that the past told about women.’

Using vintage recording processes, Just Janie and her band tracked the album via analog pathways to tape, an ambitious and rare approach, allowing them to sonically replicate an era inspiring the music. The result; a nostalgic trip with nods to Fleetwood Mac, Joni Mitchell and Neil Young. “If you find yourself… daydreaming about Laurel Canyon, it might be the perfect time for Just Janie” - Spinoff, NZ
