January 27 - 30, 2012

The Auckland Folk Festival is an annual festival of music, song and dance for the whole family.  It takes place at the end of January on Auckland Anniversary Weekend at Kumeu Showground, northwest of Auckland.   The festival is organised by members of Devonport Folk Music Club, Titirangi Folk Music Club, Auckland Bluegrass & Traditional Old Time Country Music Club, Tir Na Nog, and City of Auckland Morris Dancers.

Kumeu Showground is an ideal festival site, with a large flat camping area, plenty of parking, hot showers and both flush and portable toilets.  On site catering is provided and off site, there are shops and restaurants within walking distance.

The guests for the 2012 festival include Danny Spooner - a singer of traditional and contemporary folk songs of Britain and Australia, Wires and Wood  - a Bluegrass band whose CD 'Over the Moon' won the Tui Award for the Best New Zealand Folk Album for 2010, Peter Grassby and the Grasshoppers - an English band renown for their effervescent dance music, Cy Winstanley and Vanessa Evelyn - a London-formed duo (of Her Make Believe Band) playing a blend of Americana fused with jazz, soul, and pop, Erin Cole-Baker - born in the USA and raised in Whangarei New Zealand, her music is a blend of indie, folk, and pop, and the Big Muffin Serious Band - who have been performing around New Zealand since 1983 and have a penchant for ukuleles!
